Inimitable style
Eyevan’s design sources are many, drawn from a variety of objects such as vintage eyeglasses, telescopes, hand mirrors and old tools. The design team is also inspired by artifacts such as building structures and products of nature that the designers have observed. These many design sources are mixed and matched to create unique frame designs.
The Eyevan frame branch comes from French cutlery from the 1940s. The metal frame comes from the structure of 1970’s eye testing equipment and its parts are inspired by the arabesque patterns of ancient Japanese temples. Eyevan 7285 eyewear frames are handcrafted by artisans and state-of-the-art machine tools in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture. This is the world’s leading city for eyewear production. Using both traditional and state-of-the-art processes, the brand’s seemingly simple designs are in fact works of art.
Only a handful of exceptionally skilled artisans at Sabae make the glasses one by one using nearly 400 processes. We’re far from an industrial process, but about as close to a work of art as you can get.
A rich history to be shared
Eyevan was born in 1972 with a rather particular concept. Its vision is to offer “glasses to be dressed as a fashion item”. In 1985, the brand made a sensational entry into the world of eyewear. Eyevan frames are now known for their timeless design and when we look at the handwritten drawings or archives of the brand, we can see the authentic craftsmanship of Japan. It is a true ode to creativity and enthusiasm.
Finally, in 2013, more than 40 years after the brand’s launch, a new team of designers rebuilt the Eyevan 7285 eyewear brand based on the brand’s ancient archives, redefining the standards of beauty.
